The vintage cocktail lounge now known as Weegee’s Lounge has been in service for close to a century. It has seen several incarnations as the neighborhood around it has gradually transformed from a quiet residential neighborhood to the more artsy commercial district that encompasses it now. Throughout most of the changes, Weegee’s Lounge has maintained a classic speakeasy ambiance, with an intricately detailed tin roof, classic glass and wood bar, and Victorian décor.
Named after the nickname of famed photographer Arthur Fellig from the 1930s era, the walls of Weegee’s are graced with his works along with black and white photos, and to top off the vintage feel, the new owners, Alex Huebner and his wife have placed a classic, working, black and white photo booth in the back corner. Weegee’s achieves its classic, retro feel using the authentic paraphernalia of a well-worn tavern.
Guests enjoy the relaxed and quiet atmosphere, playing shuffleboard, and they speak highly of the reasonably priced and tasty cocktails served by friendly and knowledgeable bartenders. Weegee’s Lounge is located at 3659 Armitage Avenue in the west Logan Square district. Be assured that the blue and white strobing lights from nearby police cars are part of the regular scene outside Weegee’s Lounge, and are not to be feared.
